The Millennium Arch
The Millennium Arch is a beautiful sculpture that started out as several large slabs of red granite rock and precisely cut with a high tech water jet. The original design came from internationally acclaimed artist Edwina Sandys. The Millennium Arch currently resides outside Castleman Hall facing 10th Street.
One of the most exciting things about working with a new cutting tool is that it brings opportunities that don't often crop up in every day life. A technique was developed for making deep cuts into granite, as a way of creating a sculpture for the campus. This technique has been validated, and is being used for other works.
