Areas of Interest at RMERC

The RMERC carries out multi-disciplinary research into a variety of different fields. Since much of that effort is toward the development, construction and testing of prototype equipment, this requires a broad range of expertise in a variety of fields. Those wishing to apply for positions should be aware that these open on irregular intervals, as contracts are awarded, and that reference should be made to individual research programs for fuller descriptions of the work to be carried out.
Employment at the RMERC does not guarantee admission to Graduate School at Missouri S&T. Rather applicants should first gain acceptance into their Department of choice before approaching the Center for a position. Employment opportunities frequently arise in the fields of: Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and at less frequent intervals in Civil Engineering and more specialized areas (depending on contract work). Appointments are generally made on a semester basis at percentages of a full time appointment, and range in size with the level of work required and the amount of time the student have available.
Current areas of research include:

* Waste Dislodging & Conveyance-Medium Pressure System
* Determination of Fluid Jet Impact Sensitivity of propellant.
* Drilling and Cutting of exortic materials with Abrasive Waterjet.
* The Investigation of the Use of Soybean Oil as an Ingredient in Blasting Agent
* Navy Shell Cutting Demonstration
* Advanced Cutting Technologies-Abrasive Waterjet Cutting
* Development of an abrasive water jet flexible cell demilitarisation system.
* Development of an efficient abrasive recycling system.
* Abrasive water jet micro machining.
* Analysis and improvement of state of the art abrasive cutting methods.
* Multi-dimensional sculpturing via waterjet.
* Excavations in rock and soil and the support of underground openings.
* Roughness index of concrete surfaces produced with waterjets under different conditions.
* Simulation of cutting/cleaning headpath.
* Converting two-dimensional drawing files into three dimensional objects using Omax abrasive jet machining center.
* Integration of garnet recycling system with abrasive jet cutting systems.
* Hybrid waterjet/laser for rock disintegration.
* Soil mechanics and foundation engineering.
* Earthquake Engineering.
* Hazard modeling
* Numerical modeling and information systems.
* Multivariate analysis of borehole discontinuity data.
* Consrete substrate roughness measurement using laser profilometry.
* Mobile highway sign retroreflectivity.
* Aggregate shape measurement.
* Quick assessment of highways.
* Explosive pulsed power generation.
* Research into the use of taggants for explosives.
* Blast protection of walls and other structures.
